Asking for fair and even punishments.

If the precedent is set with The Mittani being punished, then all I ask is that all other players who act in a hateful or insulting way on the same scale be punished equally.

IE, Mittani is banned from Eve, then ALL petitioned people proven to send hate mail/forum posts/chat with death threats or any kind of 'die in a fire' 'go kill yourself' style mails and forum posts should also be banned form Eve.

If Mittani is punished by being stripped of CSM cahir or CSM membership then CCP will have to figure out an equal punishment that can be metered out to the above players who deal out that kind of stuff on a daily basis in game.

Fairness means equal punishment for an equal transgression.

This I actually agree with. Mittani at least had a conscience about his actions. Many of the people posting have proven that they don't.

I have no love for Mittani, but I think the only punishment that should be put out is his removal from CSM, as being a member of that does actually require a higher standard than other players are held to. But he has already stated he is stepping down, so that isn't an issue any longer, anyhow.

People say this kind of stuff constantly, and it would be too difficult for CCP to be able to police every account that does and take an account based action against them.

The CSM published by CCP

Excerpt from page 20 of the linked CCP document-

CSM REPRESENTATIVE CONDUCT

any behavior or actions considered being a material breach of the eula or tos
by a Csm representative is grounds for immediate dismissal and permanent
exclusion from all pending and future participation in the council. There are no
exceptions, regardless of the infraction. representatives are not only expected to
uphold the social contract that all society members are held accountable to, but
should also set a behavior standard for everyone else to follow.

This sounds pretty clear cut to me. Unless we don't play by these rules anymore?

"immediate dismissal and permanent exclusion"

Policies are created to insure all players are treated fairly and equally. We can't
begin making exceptions to one without eliminating the rule altogether.

What kind of publicity will EVE receive if he or any future player does commit
suicide? The media will look back on this incident and see how the company
handeled it which could open them up for future liability.

Any player regardless of alliance affiliation needs to understand the gravity of
this situation outside of the context of Eve.

This is a situation that could end Eve.

People just need to petition people with chatlogs and mails or links to forum posts. CCP dont need to police it, just react to petitions.

Digging through my mains mails, I have 14 direct death threats to me, 6 direct death threats to me and my immediate family, and 9 vague threats of vengance. I presume these will all be banned too, if CCP ban Mittens?

People got bans for MUCH less and seems Mittani is above the law. THAT is wrong. He should be banned already yet they will keep it quiet and go on like nothing happened.

So the community is in agreement then basically from what I have seen here? So far everyone agrees with equal punishment for the same transgression?

Luckily my alt keeps all teh hatemail and death threats I have received in years past as a lowsec pirate, At a guess I would say that I have around 30 or so that well overstep the mark of in game hate. Funniest thing is its mostly hisec carebears who write teh most hate when they get killed in lowsec. PVPers just tend to go 'oh well, lost another ship'.

Hisec dwellers, youd better stop that hate guys, no more threats to kill anyones wife or anything like that or its petition time. I may start petitioning teh old mails I have anyway, get some rightous ccp anger going and bannings happening.

Okay, fine. You should not have been banned for something so trivial, the rules were enforced incorrectly there, Im sorry. That doesnt mean that everyone who cusses in Jita should be banned.
