DX11 Tech and the "WTF NOT" of it all

Why is this even a discussion, the demo looks awesome, it brings eve into the modern world of graphics, DX11 and soon to be 12 are the future, its scale-able so both crap cards and good cards would work great, DX11 features are disable able for those without DX11 cards, and those that get DX11 cards will be able to enable and scale it based on there graphics card....

Time wise 5 man years, is NOTHING, i mean as they said in the conference the last big graphical update was 50 man years!!!! And while it was good it was no where near the difference PhysX and Tesselation would make to the look of eve.

This seems to me like a nobrainer.

Now don't get me wrong i still think that the POS revamp takes precedence of the art teams time, but honestly theres no draw back, it will make a huge impact to even mundane things like mining... it stands to make the game look amazing, the V3 team as far as i understand it is getting to the end of the V3 process relatively soon, and its 1 team for 1 year.

With the new push for "EVE" content, and teams dedicated to EVE, i don't see why this isn't just "what we're doing next"

Now i'll reiterate finishing the V3ing, fixing scale, fixing camera (part of fixing scale), the UI (those thats a different team) and most of all POS's are #1 priority, i don't see why this can't be added as a "we should get a small team working on this now."

I would love to see at least 2 teams on it though so it will be ready by winter expansion.

However V3 first agreed. Hopefully minmatar will be done by then. Then followed by stations objects and capitals and odd ball pirates.

I also feel that the move to DX11 would also fix a lot of the problems they are having with the Anti Aliasing + HDR issues which is part of the flashing bright spots/graphics degrade issues they are having and trying to fix for the last what, almost 2 years now? 1.5 comes out to fix it for ATI card and Boom, broken all over again. :/

DX9 graphics really have kept up well, but are now 2006ish tech and it is time to move up. If anything a DX10/11 capable upgrade would be good since over 90% of the EVE community should have at least a DX10 card and if not, you can get one that can do DX10/11 for $20 to play eve at a similar or better level then whatever system is still trying to play at the basic level today.

Jon Lander confirmed that Minmatar and Amarr sub caps will be V3d for Inferno during the CCP Presents presentation, as a lot of people were asking that during fanfest.

2 teams doesn't equal twice as fast, just FYI.

Sometimes it can be faster than 2x; A synergy if you will. All depends on how well the tasks are managed and delegated.

why cant you do it in stages .. no need to roll out all at once

No no. Either do it once and then 100% and total and absolut right .. or don't touch it :).

It looked fantastic, yes. As a miner I would defenitly want it "NOW". Active mining with such great physical effects could be better then any C-class movie ;). I see me allready get a Arbitrator with T1 Mining drones just to enjoy this damn nice engine :D (and then jettision the ore as I don't want it *g*).

Why the hell can't I fitt capital repairs or shield booster on an Orca ... it's an CAPITAL ship!

Things I'd MUCH rather see first:

Shots/missles hitting ships
Damage type specfic explosions/impacts
Things impacting the shields around ship
Real hull damage
The new bombers


Eventually I'd like to see it..........just not all that pumped to see it, really wont make that big a diff...

Improving ship models I only really see docked in a station, and even then they have absolutely zero gameplay function... I couldn't really care less.

Now if they chose to improve one of the hundred UIs I get to interact with every single day which make me jump through hoops to perform a trivially simple funtion, that would be a thing.

yes just keep an eve classic client working for a year after its realease so regular non DX11 comps can run it fine... i got about one to two years left on one of my laptops and would be rather pissed if i had to replace it before its needed...

Chances are you are going to see all of that first in inferno.

New tactical overlay is iconisitic, no ships no models and probaly no game engine animations. (think homeworlds)

Angels is more than likely mixed with minmatar V3. As blood raiders is to amarr.

I think there're no so many DX11 cards out there, so my bet is they're aiming at next year's summer expansion and give people time to update and catch up. Priority should be POS revamping. This shiny bing can be hold off a bit more.

Only thing I was worried about was that we'd all be forced into a DirectX 11 client in the very near future & was assured by a DEV here in the forums that it wouldn't happen because then the XP OS users (like myself ) would get thrown under the bus.
