I don't want to play an EVE where we can't be dicks to each other

My concern with the latest incident is that CCP might overreact and accelerate its disturbing recent trend of removing the harshness from EVE.

EVE is supposed to be the harshest game out there. If you are suicidal, don't play EVE. CCP, please don't dumb EVE down so that a handful of deeply disturbed customers can feel 'safe'. If you have to slap a 'Mature' (irony intended) tag on the game instead of 'Teen', then do it.

And I've never scammed or griefed. I have always played the game with my e-honour intact. But I wouldn't still be playing the game at all if the 'scum' of EVE wasn't allowed to do their thing too. While goons (and their ilk) are annoying at times, the game would be a lot less interesting without them.

Activity that would be considered griefing in other games (singling out a particular (non-noob) player or group and inflicting unpleasant experiences on them) has always been 100% acceptable, working as intended in EVE. Please keep it that way.

Publicly ridiculing someone who displayed suicidal thoughts and then egging others on to do the same is not "being a ****", especially when you are in the position of CSM chairman.

There's a line.

Stop reading in the 1st sentence.

I've been here since 2004, and people like you have been saying eve has been getting "less hardcore" for the last 8 years.

Someone is always saying some change CCP is making is "making the game like hardcore" but really your just upset at something stupid.

the great speed nerf of 2007 was not making eve less hardcore. And whatever your dealing with now, trust me, this is eve, the new FPS is supporting just changing sides half way in and killing your whole team. And that's supported.

if you can't figure out the difference between treating people like **** in the game and in real life, maybe you should get a life.

The OP is another who can't see that acting in EvE and calling people in EvE <> doing the same in RL.

It's easy: not only in EvE you get consequences for your actions. You also get them in RL.

Paraphrasing EvE's meme: Real Life is REAL!

My thought exactly and the potential of dumbing down my eve is the scariest outcome from this event.

I support changing the game rating to M, hell put a psych warning on it, If you are mentally unstable this game may not be good for your health.

I love how another dude on the alliance panel based his entire presentation around humiliating individual players publicly with their player names plastered on the slides while Mittani's slides did not even include names, just the text of the evemails.

But nooo a bunch of worthless pubbies want to nail him to a cross because HE'S A GOON OH GOD HE'S BAD AND EVIL AND HE KILLED MY HULK (((

People, there's three separate things here

1) EVE being a game where playing it hard in the game - scamming, suicide ganking, blobbing, baiting, trapping, using clever tricksies, and enjoying it and gloating when you win and the other guy loses - is not only allowed but even encouraged.

2) Individual random players talking about other individual random players in a derisive manner, and/or alliances trying to mudtalk each other as part of campaigns related to the game.

3) People with public trust (e.g. CSM position) using their reputation to publicly single out other players as targets of ridicule and ingame action.

One is what most of us long-term players love. Two is occasionally annoying but has to be tolerated somewhat. But number three is what is out of line.

And whether there was talk of suicide involved or not is not even very relevant. It is the abuse of trust and power that is the problem here. The suicide joke just makes it more tasteless.

Damn I guess I missed that part. Who was it? How many on the alliance panel told the players to hunt down a specific person and grief them to get them to kill themselves in real life?

You guys do realize this is only supposed to be a game right? Straight

Agreed. Eve needs to be kept brutal and cold. Its literally the only multiplayer game out there that provides this kind of environment.

It would be a shame for CCP to throw that market advantage away. I really hope they stay faithful to their core players.

I understand theres many new players who are used to the heavy PvE environments of most other games, but we all came from that background at some point. And we all learned the harsh reality of this spaceships game the hard way. Throwing down pillows for all the new players is just making their transition into our universe that much harder, as well as alienating your older fans.

"War declarations are never officially considered griefing and are not a bannable offense, and it has been repeatedly stated by the developers that the possibility for non-consensual PvP is an intended feature." - CCP

Sure, he crossed a line... what that really means is that he did something wrong. As a general rule, that tends to mean you apologize and attempt to right the wrongs - which he is doing. He has issued his public apology and attempted to make restitution with the individual in question.

There is no further action required.

We do. He does too, which is why he didn't just plaster The Wis' name all over the slide, and also why he apologized once he'd realized what he'd done.

Everyone who heard his drunk "threat" knows too, since the harassment of Wis was so ~intense~ that he didn't even know anything was up a few days after the fact.

The only people that seem confused about this whole thing are the agenda-heavy publords screaming for Mittens' head. They're the ones taking a stupid bad-taste remark and turning it into a ridiculous witch-hunt.

"Look any reason why you need to talk like that? I have now reported you. I dont need to listen to your bad tone. If you cant have a grown up conversation then leave the thread["

I wish we could have even more new threads about this thing. No I don´t.

Please, people. I know that having your opinion at the back of the line isn't as appealing as having it at the front, but there are rules about this and we'll have to enforce them more harshly if this keeps up because there are people who come to this forum to read about other things too.

Thanks!
